History and Context: Perfume has a rich history, dating back to ancient civilizations where it was synonymous with luxury and sophistication. Over time, as perfumery evolved, different concentrations of perfume (like eau de parfum and eau de cologne) were made popular, as they catered to diverse preferences and budgets. Price Point and Luxury A higher concentration in perfumes often translates to a higher price point, especially when rare or luxurious oils are used. Versatility and Wear While eau de parfum is sometimes considered more versatile for everyday wear, the choice between perfume and eau de parfum should be based on personal preference and the occasion. A great fragrance can be a real investment, and if you're like me, you want it to last throughout the day, and not vanish after an hour of spraying it. I'm here to help. Here are 5 expert tips to help you get more performance out of you fragrances.1. Moisturize before spraying your perfumeDry skin soaks up perfume oils... and it just doesn't matter how "beast mode" your perfume is if your skin drinks it up moments after you apply it. Luckily, the fix is pretty easy. Use an unscented moisturizing cleanser, and body lotion to hydrate your skin, and make it a better canvas for your fragrance. Moisturize immediately after stepping out of the shower for best results.2. Choose an EDP or Extrait instead of an Eau De ToiletteWhen perfumers use the words "Eau De Toilette", "Eau De Parfum", or "Extrait De Parfum", they are referring to the concentration of your fragrance. Eau De Toilette fragrances are lower concentrations that won't last long on your skin, and will tend to fade quicker than the higher concentrated EDPs, and Extraits. If you're wearing a Day Three Fragrance, you're in luck; all of our fragrances are produced in high concentration, and with the highest quality ingredients, so they'll perform like the superstar fragrances that they are :)3. Pick Your SpotsIf you apply perfume to your wrists, there's a good chance that your fragrance will rub off on things you touch throughout the day, or be washed off the first time you wash your hands. So where should you spray? You could try spraying your clothes. The fabric will hold the fragrance nicely, and last all day. You could also spray into your hair. The fibers in your hair lock onto scent molecules and keep them there longer than your skin can. But if you spray your hair, be careful not to over-spray. Having an alcohol based product in your hair can dry it out if you're not careful.4. Don't Rub. Just Dab.Have you seen people spray a perfume, then rub it into their skin? That's a good way of damaging the delicate top notes of your fragrance, and could make it harder to smell. Instead of rubbing your fragrance in, simply spray it on and allow it to settle in on it's own. You'll be happy you did.5. Check Your DistanceIf you want to smell your perfume all day, you're going to need to be wearing it (duh). But if you spray your perfume into the air, and walk through it... most of that sprayed perfume is going to end up on the floor, and the little bit that ends up on you is going to be spread out over a large area, which will evaporate very quickly and leave you fragrance-less in mere moments. Don't walk through a spray of perfume. It's a total waste.Instead, hold the bottle just about six inches away, and spray directly onto your skin, clothes, or hair. That will concentrate the perfume oils in one location, where they will work better. Want perfume in more than one location? Use multiple sprays. If you're using an inoffensive and people pleasing fragrance (like Day Three), you won't get any dirty looks from co-workers when you over-spray.Bonus tip:Some perfumes are just made up out of materials that are delicate, and tend to fade quickly. These usually include fresh perfumes that have citrus notes, or soft florals. But you can still smell amazing all day. Simply carry around a travel size bottle with you, so that you can re-apply throughout the day. A 10ml bottle can fit in a pocket or purse comfortably, and last you quite a while. So grab one and keep it with you for those moments you want a little scent boost.OK, last tip... seriously:You can pick up a Day Three Discovery Set for just thirty bucks (with free shipping), and keep the small spray bottles in your car or purse. Then, you can reapply your favorite Day Three Fragrance later in the day, share your favorite fragrances with a friend or even switch it up and wear something different in the evening. The discovery set comes with eight fragrances, so you'll have plenty to choose from. And as a special bonus, the discovery sets also come with a code for $30 off a full bottle... it's like getting a discovery set for free!   

On my sales pages, I try to keep fragrance descriptions to a minimum: the notes, the concentration, a quick description, and the price (and maybe a real customer quote or two). But for those who want to know a bit more about how the fragrance is built, and why, here is the “Inside scoop”.The Inspiration:Del Mar is a light, tropical freshie, inspired by a vacation I took years ago to Del Mar California. The AirBnB I was staying at was just a few steps from the shore, and along it’s white picket fence grew the most amazingly fragrant jasmine. As the air blew in from the ocean, across the warm sand, and through the jasmine, it became a sort of natural perfume, rivaling anything produced by the most expensive niche houses. It was incredible, and I would never forget the sensation of breathing it in.When I set out to create a formula based on that experience, it was a purely selfish decision. I simply wanted a perfume for my own personal use that would remind me of that day in Del Mar, so that I could re-live that memory over and over. I did in fact, try out existing fragrances first, hoping to find something that fit the bill, but couldn’t quite find anything close. Not that the ones I tried weren’t good perfumes, but they didn’t capture that very specific moment. I’m happy to say that Del Mar accomplishes this quite nicely. Here is how it was done:Putting Together The FormulaI started off with a couple basic guidelines. First, I’d need a fragrance that I could wear in high temperatures. I live in the obnoxious heat of Arizona, where summer days can push the thermometer over 120 degrees. A thick, sweet formula was completely off the table. I also wanted something that felt organic. There are a lot of fantastic aroma-chemicals out there that make up some great, people pleasing designer fragrances, but that’s not the direction I wanted to go. I wanted something just a bit more photo-realistic and natural.I started in the base with the beach sand accord. By using a combination of ambers and musks, I was able to nail down the feeling of warm skin, and sweet sand. The coconut then comes along and smooths out the base, adding to the beach vibe, but staying quietly tucked in the background. Too much coconut starts to feel like suntan lotion to me, and that wasn’t part of the memory I was trying to recreate. However, when used subtlety, coconut can bring a milky, warm smoothness to a blend.The Heart Notes:In the heart, I crafted a very light, almost completely translucent white floral accord. As you wear Del Mar, you’ll notice that the florals don’t feel “close” to your nose as if you were putting your face in a bouquet of flowers. Instead, there’s a diffusive, airy-ness to the florals. They are less thick and indolic, and more ethereal. That transparency was important to me, because it helped me stay true to my inspiration, and as a bonus, meant that high heat wear wouldn’t be an issue.In perfumery, we have a super fancy term for ingredients that cause more of a sensation than a scent (there’s more to it, but that’s the ballpark description). They’re called “chems with a low slope of psycho-physical function”. How’s that for nerd talk? I chose a blend of these ingredients for my mid that create the feeling of warmth, and sunshine. Sometimes you’ll see companies mention these ingredients in the notes breakdown as “solar notes”, but I always found that to be confusing. I mean; what does sunshine actually smell like?In The Top Notes:At the top, I decided on lime.to contrast with the creaminess of the amber and coconut in the base. More specifically, I wanted that really zesty, almost spicy fragrance of the lime peel. I started with organic distilled lime oil, and added touches of some special isolates to coax out that sweet, spicy, zest. Then, touches of mint were added to help elevate the lime and give it a fizziness, causing the opening to sparkle off the skin, and greet the wearer with a friendly brightness.Those are the highlights of Del Mar to me. Is there more in there? Oh, definitely. But trust me; you wouldn’t want me to drone on about every subtle nuance… it would bore you to death. All About Silent RescueIn December of 2022, we released “Silent Rescue”, our fragrance focusing on the note of frankincense. Out of the six offerings currently available in our catalog, it has the most complex formula (more than 65 materials), which is ironic, as it’s also the only one that is built to highlight a single note. Silent Rescue is also the most “niche” fragrance in the line. That’s not to say that it’s unlikable, but that it’s got a unique character that makes it quite different than the trending designer perfumes you’d find in the mall.A Mysterious NotePerfumers quite often formulate releases that focus on a note that they love. So, you’ll see a lot of fragrances that feature patchouli, or rose. Vanilla is a very trendy note, and recently it seems like you can’t throw a rock without hitting a new vanilla-centric juice. But frankincense forward formulas are much harder to come by, and that’s a shame because it has such a beautiful and complex scent profile. However, it’s also harder to market. Ask ten random people what frankincense smells like, and you’ll likely find that nine of the ten have no idea. Even “frag-heads” who love and collect fragrances tend to have a limited experience with the material. Generally, those that are familiar with the note of frankincense know it as smokey, or soapy, and probably associate it in combination with other notes, such as rose or myrrh. That’s why you don’t often find frankincense advertised as the star of a fragrance.Frankincense (also known as olibanum) is really very complex though, and has lots to offer. It can be bright and fruity, sporting a lemony facet. It call also be spicy and warm, similar to pepper or elemi resin. Frankincense sourced from trees that grow at higher altitude can have a cooling, pine-like nuance. Of course, frankincense can have that smokey and dark side that people generally know it for. The CO2 extract of frankincense is very crisp and clean. You can even hunt down olibanum oils that have been co-distilled with other materials that smooth it out, making it sweeter. There’s a lot going on there. As a perfumer, there’s just so many directions you could take a stunning material like frankincense. Here’s how I decided to treat this amazing olfactive treat:Letting The Whole Thing ShineI decided that I wanted to highlight different facets of frankincense in different phases of Silent Rescue’s dry down. So I started by blending and balancing a variety of different frankincense oils, which would each show off a different side of frankincense. As luck would have it, each of those different materials had not only it’s own unique scent, but it’s own individual evaporation curve (length of time it lasts before fading away). That meant that each material could shine in the formula, then make way for the next to come in and take center stage. In other words, as the fragrance evolves through it’s top, middle, and base, the frankincense note itself also blooms and changes.The Opening of Silent RescueAt the top, Silent Rescue features a fruity frankincense which is paired with citrus and spice to bring out it’s impactful brightness. On initial spray, you are greeted with a blast of super-freshness. Citrus and spice are common in top notes, but here, the frankincense is quite present as well, making the opening more complex and unique than you may be used to in an introduction. You don’t need to wait for the top notes to disappear before the fragrance becomes interesting; Silent Rescue captivates on contact.The HeartThe heart transforms into a smoother, and more “calm” frankincense material. Here, I chose to highlight the frankincense by using black tea, which is very “soft” (not in it’s projection, but in it’s character). The combination of the two notes creates a sort of “ancient temple” feel. The bright and spicy opening fades and suddenly, Silent Rescue is a relaxation fragrance. As the frankincense becomes less fruity and spicy, it begins to feel cleaner and perhaps “cold”, which contributes to the feeling of calm and quiet. There’s an airiness and openness to the mid. The fragrance seems to expand and become more transparent.Crafting The BaseAt the base, you’ll encounter yet another side of frankincense, as Silent Rescue transforms again. There’s a creamy, sweetness from sandalwood and benzoin that comes alongside a now woody and churchy frankincense. The result is a friendly vanilla-like vibe, but with a deep incense twist. Like the top, the deep dry down feels familiar, yet enhanced by frankincense, making for a very niche wearing experience.Throughout the metamorphosis of Silent Rescue through it’s dry down, one thing doesn’t change: it’s complete focus on the note of frankincense. In each stage of it’s development on skin, the main note is never lost, and never takes a back seat. With more than thirteen percent of the formula made up of frankincense materials, Silent Rescue features more of it’s carefully balanced frankincense blend than the total amount of natural ingredients used in most of today’s popular fragrances. Silent Rescue also boasts a naturals content of over 30%, and is diluted to extrait de parfum concentration, making the amount of natural oils and extracts in each bottle almost unheard of in the industry.
